In 1989 John completed a Visual Communications Degree at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. His studies included a full range of courses in Promotional Advertising Design with a primary point of focus on illustration. During university John worked with high-speed photo-stat houses and learned of the mechanical functions of Photography and Art in the Advertising and Printing industry. On his graduation from university he was voted most likely to succeed by his peers and his professors due to his rigid work ethic.
In May of 1990, John returned home to Banff, a resort mountain town located in Banff National Park. The park itself is located about 120 kilometers west of Calgary in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. In the early 90’s he was employed by the local newspapers and commercial printers.
In 1992, John decided to develop his photographic skills further as an outdoor resort photographer at Skiing Louise. Lake Louise has been documented time and time again as the worlds most picturesque ski area. Needless to say it is still John’s favorite high-rise corner office with a view.
In the spring of 1995, John's first wedding had found him while working the slopes of Skiing Louise. Unknowingly, in his first encounter with the prominent couple, he would find himself covering the photography of their wedding in May at the famous Banff Springs Hotel. Without any experience in the wedding business John was grateful to accept the job and later it was discovered that the Groom was the General Manager of the Banff Park Lodge.
After his first wedding, John went forward with photographing Weddings, Scenic Stock, and Corporate Events. He started his own publishing company in the late 90's. He published; note cards, postcards, and posters with press runs of over 200,000 per year!
John Stewart’s images have graced and still grace calendars, postcards, advertisements, and even Banff’s “Best” Bottled Water found in the Canadian Rockies. So when you're considering a Portrait or Wedding Package with John, you are booking a individual who’s primary relationship is with a passion for the Visual Arts and his second is applying that passion to the glorious backdrop of the Canadian Rockies!
